Real Numbers

Definition: Real Numbers

The set of Real Numbers is denoted by R. The set of Real Numbers is the open set, R=(,).

This open set does NOT contain and . In other words, ± are not Real Numbers.

NOTE: There exists the Extended Real Number System; but we will not use R#=R{,}=[,] in this course.

NOTE: This course, Calculus II, uses ONLY Real Numbers, i.e., will use neither nor as Real-numbered values.
