Bloom’s Taxonomy

A modern version of Bloom’s Taxonomy is included here to recognize various different levels of understanding and to encourage you to work towards higher-order understanding (those at the top of the pyramid). All Objectives, Investigations, Activities, etc. are color-coded with the level of understanding.

Investigation 03 – Reprise

I have used algebra to rewrite the following integrals.

Determine if trigonometric substitution is a valid method for evaluating the following integrals. Explain.

  1. 3x2+3x+2dx=3(x+32)214dx

  2. 1x34xdx=1x(x24)dx

  3. x+2x22x+1dx=x+2(x1)2dx HINT: Do you see any of the following: x2a2, a2x2, or x2+a2 (where a is a constant)?

  4. xx31dx=x(x1)((x+12)2+34)dx HINT: What do you notice about the factor x1 in the denominator?
