HOW TO FIND THE DEFINITE INTEGRAL OF A FUNCTION WITH TI89 CALCULATOR

Steps Key Sequence Screens
1. Input Function Press DIAMOND key, then F1 key (for Y=)
  Type the function
Method 1: Using home screen.
2. Go to Home screen Press 2nd, then ESC
3. Select nInt Function Press F3
  Press ALPHA, then ( key (for nInt()
NOTE: Alternatively, you can use the integrate function, i.e., ALPHA, then 2.
4. Type in Integrand (i.e., the Function)  
Note: You can either type in the function directly (e.g., 5 – 2x2 + x3) OR, if you followed step 1 above, use y1(x)
4. Type in Independent Variable Press comma key, then x
5. Type in Lower Limit Press comma key, then value of lower limit
6. Type in Upper Limit Press comma key, then value of upper limit, then ) key
7. Evaluate Press ENTER
NOTE: If you used the integrate function
 
Method 2: Using grapher.
Follow Step 1 above    
  Type the function
2. Graph Press DIAMOND key, then F3 key
3. Find Definite Integral Press F5
  Press 7 (for 'integral of' f(x)dx)
  Type in lower limit
  Press ENTER
  Type in upper limit
  Press ENTER
Note: You may need to zoom out to see the entire area. If so, you will need to repeat the last step.
